FAQs Does sugaring hurt?
Customers have had hair removed form EVERY part of the body including face without pain-killers or skin-numbing creams and are still smiling. That said, certain areas are more sensitive than others, notably around the upper lip, mouth, chin, neck, underarms and the privates. However, the more frequently you receive body sugaring the more the hair will grow back thinner, eventually making it a breeze! NOTE Sugaring in general is less painful than waxing the most common method (for more see here). We strongly suggest men avoid waxing. Sugaring yes, waxing no!
Preparation to minimise discomfort If you are especially sensitive to pain or you are a first-time sugaring client, you may want to take an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen or a pain reliever such as Panadol or Tylenol one hour before your appointment - you don’t need to, but it will put your mind at rest and take the edge off any (mild) discomfort. Alternatively, you can apply numbing cream 45 minutes prior to service. With continuous sugaring, hair becomes finer and sparser, and each successive treatment becomes more comfortable. We keep a stock of Tylenol for nervous clients!
Why should I sugar instead of shaving?
How often should I sugar?
How should I care for my skin after sugaring? (more tips below for ‘Brazilian’ after-care) 1. After sugaring, avoid tanning and extended sun exposure for 48 hours. This can traumatize & burn new skin, as the dead skin layer has been removed with the hairs during sugaring (but not ‘live’ skin which can happen with waxing). 2. You will also want to avoid hot showers, baths, sauna and steam rooms immediately following treatment. (Warm showers are fine). We want the pores to close, not open. 3. It is recommended to use sun protection lotion for the first day after the sugaring to avoid any chance of hyper-pigmentation 4. Use a tea-tree based moisturizer on the sugared area – it is a natural antiseptic and will help reduce the likelihood of getting ingrown hairs & small pimples. 5. Exfoliate with a strong mitten, cloth or glove, but only when the skin has calmed down after sugaring and the new growth begins to penetrate. This step could take from four to seven days. Try to wear cotton underwear and clothing to allow the area to breathe. 6. Based on your skin, we will recommend a post-sugaring home-care regimen and products to calm and soothe your skin.
How do you clean your equipment between uses?
The Famous Butt & Brazilian ‘Wax’! (not actually a wax in our case as we use a far superior natural sugar paste)
What should I expect from my Butt & Brazilian ‘wax’? (hereafter called “B & B”)
The therapist will start by removing your towel and positioning your legs into place. If your pubic hair is long, it may need to be trimmed first. We advise that you do not attempt that yourself before the treatment, or you may cut the hair too short. Pre-sugaring solution is applied to clean the skin. If you feel uncomfortable during the sugaring procedure please let us know. We can take a break or change positions to ensure that the process is as relaxed as it can be.
At the end of the treatment, we will apply a tea tree lotion which is antibacterial, healing and soothes the area. If you don't like or are allergic to tea tree, please let us know and we will offer you another lotion. Finally, to prevent ingrown hair, we will offer you some handy after-care tips and suggestions to make the most of your B & B treatment.
What are the benefits of maintaining a B & B ?
Can you give me any advice for B & B aftercare?
Accordingly, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during sugaring if hair is thin or weak, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these ‘After-Care Tips’ below to minimize irritation and possible break outs.
Butt & Brazilian After-Care Tips 1. Avoid tight clothing after sugaring, especially in the pubic / butt area. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs 2. It is important for you to take extra care of the sugared areas, especially within the first 24 hours. When a large number of hairs have been removed from an area and hygiene or aftercare is poor - the area becomes vulnerable to infection. Evidence of this is 'white spots' and is usually caused by putting 'worn clothing' back on. Worn clothing is contaminated with particles of dead skin, environmental elements and bacteria within the cloth fibres. Unclean hands can also introduce bacteria into the sugared follicles. 3. Refrain from exfoliating, strenuous activities, exercise, sunbathing - recently sugared (or waxed) areas are prone to hyper-pigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun or artificial light rays - hot tubs/baths, sauna, steam rooms, sexual activities (after intimate sugaring) and swimming until the skin has normalised and recovered it's natural colour, temperature and sensitivity and at least for 24 hours. The general aim is to get the pores to close, not open. 4. Warm (not hot) showers followed by recommended aftercare lotions are fine. Do not apply make-up, self tan creams or deodorant. 5. The area will be sensitive to heat, friction (from carpets, clothing etc) and touching with unclean hands. Avoidance of restrictive clothing aids cooling of the area and regular applications of soothing gel (straight from the fridge) is beneficial, remembering to clean hands first! Intimately sugared areas require meticulous hygiene particularly focusing attention after urination etc. 6. To prevent infection, cleanliness is paramount. Avoid using soaps, body lotions or creams containing perfume or additives. We recommend you purchase 'after sugaring' soothing products, that also help to prevent ingrown hairs, however Sudocream, Germolene, Savlon, Calamine Lotion, Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera products are also effective in keeping sugared areas protected. Using an antibacterial skin wash for at least three days is advantageous. 7. Moisturize with a tea tree or lavender lotion after every shower, as this has a soothing, healing, and antibacterial effect. If using an ingrown solution, use this alone until the ingrown hair and redness is minimized, and then return to the lotion for maintaining your bikini area. 8. Routine sugaring helps the skin gets accustomed to the procedure and will minimize irritation

We can remove unwanted hair from ANY part of the body! Sugaring is like waxing, only better. The technique has been around for thousands of years. It began in Persia and was widely used by Egyptians. Sugar is a completely natural product. It has no harmful side effects whatsoever. Unlike shaving, the more often you sugar (every 4 to 8 weeks) the finer the hair re-growth, making subsequent visits even easier. Done often enough hair can disappear altogether. |
